How to Make a Twitter Account
Step 1: Go to Twitter.com or download the twitter app. Go to Sign Up an account. The name that you provide in the “Full Name” box will be that name that will be displayed in your profile. But, unlike Facebook, you can change your display name as much as you want. So, if you want to stay anonymous, it’s your choice.
Step 2: Enter your mobile number and verify it. This is one kind of authentication and it will help you to recover your account if you ever lose it. You have to use a phone number to make the security of your account high. And, in the next step, it asks for a pin that gets sent to your mobile number. So, it is better to add your mobile number.
Step 3: After you have verified your phone number, pick a password. A strong one. Don’t choose anything like 123456789 or your pet name. Choose something unique or hard to guess. This way, your account will be secured and you won’t have to lose the account that you build with so much hard work.
Step 4: Choose your interest. This step will help you to find what you want. It will also suggest you people to follow according to your interest. But, you can skip this step with the “Skip for now” button.
Step 5: Are you in?? Well, now you should see a grey silhouette next to the “Tweet” button on the top-right corner of your screen. Click on “Settings and Privacy”. At the top, you can set a username. With this username, people can find you or mention you in their posts by adding a @ then typing your username. Choose a username that would be perfect to find you and that isn’t taken by someone else.
Step 6: Pick an avatar or profile image for yourself. The default given picture is a silhouette. But, you can make your picture anything like your own picture, some funny picture or anything. The possibilities are endless. Click on the silhouette and go to “Profile”, click on “Edit Profile” on the right underneath the blue bar. Right from here, you can update your header image too. But, read twitters profile picture violation rules before adding images there.
Step 7: Add a bio. You can write your bio about what you do, where you work, what you are expert in etc. You can also write a part of your favorite poem, song even your favorite dialogues. Endless choices. This is a short description that can let your followers know what you are.

Step 3: Choose if you would like to sync your contacts. This way, you will find people that you know. If you don’t want to do that, choose “not now”.
Step 4: Search for different interest. Choose the things that you have interest in. If you don’t want to, click on skip. But, if you choose your interests, you will be able to find profiles according to your choice.

Twitter is an American microblogging social networking website. Users can interact and post with messages usually known as “tweets”. Registered users can interact with them. They can like, comment, and retweet tweets but unregistered users can only see and read them. Users access twitter with its website, through its Short Message Service, or its mobile application. Twitter, Inc. is based in San Francisco, California, and it has more than 25 offices around the world. Tweets were firstly restricted to 140 characters. But, they were doubled for non-Asian language to 280 characters in November of 2017.
Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams created Twitter in 2004. Twitter rapidly started to grow more popularity worldwide. In 2012, 100 million users posted more than 340 million tweets in a day, and it handled and an average of 1.6 billion search queries per day. Later in 2013, twitter became one of the most-visited websites and it was described as “the SMS of the internet”. In 2018, Twitter had more than 321 million monthly active users.
Twitter’s origin can be found in a “daylong brainstorming session” that was held by a podcasting company Odeo. Jack Dorsey, who was then an ungraduated student at NY University, had introduced an idea of a person using an SMS service to communicate with a small group. And, the real project code name for that was twttr which was later ascribed to Noah Glass by Williams. It was inspired by Flickr and the five-character length of American SMS shortcodes. Another reason was that the domain twitter.com was already purchased. But, six months later after the launch of twttr, the crew purchased the domain and changed the service name to Twitter. The developers initially thought “10958” as the shortcode. But, later on, it was changed to “40404” because of “ease of use and memorability”. The main work on the project started on March 21, 2006, when Dorsey published the first Twitter message/tweet at 9.50PST as “just setting up my twttr”. As for the idea of the name Twitter, Dorsey explained the origin as:
…we came across the word ‘twitter’, and it was just perfect. The definition was ‘a short burst of inconsequential information,’ and ‘chirps from birds’. And that’s exactly what the product was.
The tipping point of twitter’s popularity was for the South by Southwest Interactive (SXSWi) conference. During that time, twitter usage was increased to 20,000 tweets per day to 60,000 tweets per day. Steven Levy remarked that the Twitter people cleverly placed two 60-inch plasma screens across the hallway that exclusively streamed Twitter messages.” The reaction to the conference was highly positive. Blogger Scott Beale a blogger said that Twitter was absolutely ruling the SXSWi. Danah Boyd said that Twitter-owned the conference.
The company experienced rapid growth in this time. People were posting 400,000 posts per quarter in 2007. In 2008, this amount grew to 100 million tweets per quarter. In February 2020, twitter users were sending 50 million tweets per day. By June of 2010, about 65 million tweets were being sent per day. This amount grew to 140 million tweets in March 2011. Twitter became the third highest ranking social media/networking site because of its previous twenty second rank.
On 5th April of 2011, Twitter tested a new homepage design and phased out the previous version as “Old Twitter”. However, a glitch came in after the page was launched. So, the previous retro homepage design was brought back and was kept in use until the glitch was being fixed. After fixing the problem, the new homepage was brought back in April 20. On December 8, 2011, twitter changed its design once more to feature the fly design. Twitter said that it was easier for new users to follow and it promoted advertising. Along with the Home tab, the Connect and Discover tabs were introduced. A redesigned profile and timeline of tweets were also introduced at the same time. In that time, the site’s layout was compared to the design of Facebook. On February 21, 2012 Twitter and Yandex agreed to a partnership. Yandex which is a Russian search engine thought that there is a benefit in this partnership as twitter has a big number of real time users.
That’s it. That’s the most that I could bring for you. Hope you enjoyed. If you did, carry on. See you next time!
